Crochet Book One

Crochet Book One Cover shot of lady wearing white shawl with forest background

One of the most exciting things I’ve had the great blessing to do is a small collection of crochet patterns for Quince and Co. Crochet, book one consists of 5 pieces: finger less mitts, shawl, ascot, hat and sweater.

I love every yarn of theirs that I have had the opportunity to use.
My goal in creating patterns for them was to match the design to the yarn, to showcase the qualities of the yarn in my beloved crochet.

Seeing my work in the gorgeous photography Quince is so known for was a little overwhelming and I had a moment of “Is this real?”
There are days when it hits me hard that I wish my grandma were here to see what I’ve done with the skill she taught me, to see her excitement and, I hope, pride in my work. This was definitely one of those days.

The entire collection is for sale on the Quince and Co site for $13.00 or download from Ravelry. Links to the individual patterns are below, which you can purchase for $6 each.

1 skein

HOOK
US F [3.75 mm]

GAUGE
2 stitch pattern repeats and 8 rnds = 3 ½“ in waterlily patt
(see chart page 23), after blocking.

NOTES
When designing these, my goal was to create a lovely pair of fingerless mitts that are, from first glance, obviously crocheted. So frequently, I feel crocheted pieces are designed to look as closely to knit as possible. I wanted this collection to stand out and be proud and beautiful. I love the combination of openwork and crochet’s unique puff stitch. Oh how I’m in love with how dainty they turned out.

YARN
Sparrow / Sans 200
2 skeins

HOOK
US F [3.75mm]

NOTES
This lovely shawl is all about the yarn. I wanted to focus on the easy elegance of linen. The body is plain, yet the elongated stitches add simple grace. The crown lace edging, well, it’s just so pretty.

YARN
Chickadee / Lupine 116
1 skein

HOOK
US G/6 [4 mm]

NOTES
I love the look and wearability of keyhole scarves. Creating this in a wide body and trellis-styled fabric with pops of shells add to the whimsy. Oh, and did you know? It’s a one-skein project!

Lady wearing orange crochet sweater standing in front of a forest, marigold sweater

YARN
Finch / Apricot 137
6 (7, 8, 10, 11) skeins

HOOK
US F [3.75 mm]

GAUGE
2 stitch repeats = 4” 10 cm and 3 row repeats = 5” [12.5 cm] in lace patt and 17 sts and 10 rows in dc, after blocking.

NOTES
Who says beginners have to make potholders? This simple sweater is a skill builder. The front and back are identical squares crocheted in a straightforward lace pattern. The sleeves are worked in double crochet and shaped with easy decreases.

Making individual pieces is great fun and I really enjoy it, but there is something about sitting with an idea and developing an entire group of pieces that connect. Sometimes the ideas flow so easily and there are other times when it takes hours of swatching and sketching to get the design where it needs to be. Working in collections is my dream and I am so grateful to Quince and Co for making it come true with Crochet Book One.  To view all my Quince and Co patterns click here
